Police arrest Shiv Sena activists after they tried to hoist tricolor at Lal Chowk

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested 9 activists of Shiv Sena after they tried to hoist Tricolour on the Clock Tower in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk.

The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Shiv Sena has sent a team to Srinagar to hoist the national flag at Lal Chowk today following which security has been beefed up in the area, reports said.

The party’s move comes in the wake of National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah daring the Centre to hoist the tricolor at Lal Chowk.

Police earlier said that they were keeping an eye on the situation as they fear breach of peace here. Hoisting of tricolour in Srinagar has taken political colour with Shiv Sena announcements to Dare Farooq Abdullah.

A special team of the Sena was yesterday sent to Srinagar where it is planning to hoist the tricolor at Lal Chowk today, reports said.

Abdullah had last week said, “They (Centre and BJP) are talking about raising the flag in PaK. I ask them to go and raise the tricolor at Lal Chowk in Srinagar. They cannot even do that and they are talking about PaK.”
