Doctors to observe two hour pen down strike today: DAK

Srinagar: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) Tuesday castigated the ‘callous approach’ of authorities in intervening the matter where SDM Zainapora talked rudely and misbehaved with senior consultant surgeon, who had come out of operation theater after completing surgical procedures at CHC Zainapora.

As per the statement issued here, the spokesman said that DAK has been peacefully protesting since yesterday to stress authorities to take disciplinary action against the concerned SDM but the authorities both at the Directorate & Ministerial level seems to be unmoved about the incident which is utterly shameful and deplorable.

A delegation of DAK led by its president  Dr Suhail Naik met Director Health Services Kashmir Dr Saleem ur Rehman today wherein the delegation demanded that a strict action to be taken against the SDM and to stop this undue interference and harassment by low rung officers.

He assured the delegation of resolving the matter but DAK is skeptical about the outcome and it has been decided to go ahead with 2 hour pen down strike tomorrow and in that context a letter (copy enclosed) has been shot to CM Mehbooba Mufti, Health Minister Bali Bhagat, Divisional Commisioner Kashmir, Baseer Khan and all the hospital administrators across state.

Dr Suhail Naik  said that , keeping patient care as top most priority DAK tried its level best to highlight this grave issue peacefully but unfortunately Govt, Health & District Administration failed miserably which leaves us with no option but to go for 2 hour pen down strike from 10 am to 12 o’clock tomorrow barring emergencies, ICUs and emergency operations.

The intensity of protests will increase if Govt fails to take appropriate action against SDM as per service rules.

Moreover, DAK appealed the public to cooperate with us in this moment of agony and gloom among health personnel.

Notably, in first instance, major city hospitals including SKIMS, JVC and GMC associated Hospitals have been exempted from two hour pen down strike for tomorrow while as all peripheral institutes will protest.
