Mercury continues to plunge across JK, Srinagar records season’s coldest night

Srinagar: The night temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir plummeted further on Tuesday with Srinagar and Jammu witnessing the coldest night of the season so far.

The minimum temperature in Jammu was 7.4 and in Srinagar it was minus 3.8 degrees Celsius, while Bannihal town in Jammu region dropped below the freezing point at minus 0.9 degree Celsius, a meteorological official said.

“It’s going to be fairly cold for the next few days also and the low temperatures may remain around -4C due to the clear skies.”

Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district was the coldest place in the Valley and recorded a low of minus 4.5.C.

Pahalgam hill resort in south Kashmir was the second coldest recorded place in Kashmir with a low of minus 4.4 C, the official said.

“Due to clear night sky, the minimum temperatures in the state are likely to drop further till Friday,” an official of the Met Department said.

“The coldest town in the state was, however, Leh where it was minus 10.5 degrees Celsius, while Kargil was at minus 5.2,” he added.

Bannihal was the only town in the Jammu region where temperature dropped below the freezing point.

It was one degree Celsius in Bhaderwah, 3.2 in Udhampur, 3.7 in Batote and 8.2 in Katra.

The weatherman has already predicted dry weather for this week in state.
