Mehbooba, Omar get ‘social’ through social media

Srinagar: After Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti was re-elected as president of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) unopposed on Saturday, opposition National Conference (NC) working president Omar Abdullah took to Twitter to wish her success.

“Congratulations to @MehboobaMufti on being re-elected as President of @jkpdp. We may not agree on much these days but I wish you well,” Omar Abdullah wrote on Twitter.

Pertinently, Mehbooba Mufti wasted no time in acknowledging his wish and said that debate is the essence of the democracy.

“Thanks for the wishes Omar. Debate is the essence of democracy so we can agree to disagree on certain issues,” Mufti wrote on the micro-blogging site.

Mehbooba Mufti was re-elected as the President of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the sixth consecutive term. She was re-elected following a meeting of the PDP political affairs committee (PAC) here earlier in the day. A party spokesman said Mehbooba’s re-election was unanimous.

When Mufti Muhammad Sayeed became the Chief Minister in November 2002, he handed over the party’s mantle to his daughter, who was named President in 2003.
