Week-long operation called off in Kupwara forests

Kupwara:The week-long search operation launched by the government forces in Zurhama and Keran forests  to nab the militants has been called off without success, police said.

The operation in the vast areas were launched to nab the militants who attacked and killed two army jawans and injured four others in Zurhama and Keran encounters last week.

The Police said the operations launched jointly by the army, police and central reserve police force in Zurhama Lolab to Keran forests yielded nothing and has thus been called off.  

The forces did not find any suspicious movement in the areas during the weeklong campaign. “We left nothing to chance and searched every nook and corner of the areas to nab the militants but did not find any movement,” the police said, adding the operation has been called off.

Locals of the areas said that many mobile check-posts have been removed but thorough checking of private vehicles continues at vantage points.

Earlier, they said, they have spotted army moving towards forest areas last week. The army exploded mortar shells in the forested areas. (Kashmir Wire)
