UMEED to fulfil dreams of women folk through self-reliance: Tarigami

 

Kulgam: Member Legislative Assembly from Kulgam, Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami today inaugurated a daylong seminar on UMEED scheme here at Town Hall which was organized by officers of National Rural Livelihood Mission.

Speaking on the occasion, the MLA, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said that he felt happy to see enthusiastic women SHGs who are ready to face challenges in order to achieve success in their lives.

 “I am hopeful that UMEED will fulfil dreams and aspirations of women folk through self-reliance and access to economic resources,” he added.

ADDC Kulgam, Chief Planning Officer Kulgam, District officers of line Departments like Agriculture, Horticulture, Sheep Husbandry, Sericulture, Handicrafts, Fisheries, KVIB, Lead Bank Manager and Animal Husbandry, professional resource persons from NRLM and a large number of unemployed women SHGs were present on the occasion.

The participants were informed about different sectoral components under which opportunities are available in NRLM for livelihood generation for unemployed youth and SHGs. Besides, the officers delineated different aspects of UMEED programme.

It was given out that 446 Self Help Groups (SHGs) were formed during the current year whose membership has risen to 3770. In addition, 40 Village Organization Teams were constituted to mobilize the unemployed women for seeking gainful employment through the UMEED scheme.

During the seminar, the WSHGs put forth the demand of declaring Kulgam Block a resource block in South Kashmir besides they wished under convergence the MGNREGA works done in RDD department be facilitated through these groups.

Earlier, a mission song was sung by a group of SHGs present in the programme who later on shared their success stories with the audience.

Additional District Development Commissioner, Khwaja Nazir Ahmad also spoke on the occasion and said that district administration is acting as a facilitator for implementing these schemes with the prime motive of making the youth self-reliant and progressive.
