Shopian: Shopian district in volatile south Kashmir observed a complete shutdown for a different cause on Tuesday.
No organization had given a call for hartal today but people of the district were on the roads to protest against the poor supply of electricity.
The protesters alleged that PDP-BJP alliance government has a grudge against the citizens of this district that is why they are being denied supply of electricity.
“I have not seen such an erratic supply during my life time,” observed a 60 year old, Abdul Rehman.
He said “there is no time scheduled followed for curtailment. During the entire day we are subjected to numerous cuts which exposes the official curtailment announced for the winter this season,” he said.
Another protester, Abdul Ahad said “We see no power during evenings not to speak during night or other parts of the day.
He said that this is worst power crisis the district is facing since the last 30 years.
The protestors later raising slogans against the PDD and the government demanding an immediate end to their power woes.
The protestors later tried to take out a process which was intercepted by the police.
Eyewitnesses said that the protestors later clashed with the police as clashes broke out at several places.
However, no report of anybody getting injured during the clashes was received even though police used lathis and fired dozens of tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters. (Kashmir Wire)
