Fresh PSA slapped against Masrat Alam, shifted to Kotbalwal jail

Srinagar: The firebrand leader of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim league, Masarat Alam has been shifted to Kotbalwal jail in Jammu overnight as authorities booked him afresh under public safety act (PSA).

The fresh orders, incidentally 36th in the series, were passed last evening by the Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara, official reports said.

They said Alam, who had been brought to Kupwara a few days ago, was shifted to Kotbalwal, Jammu during night.

A spokesman of the Muslim League commenting on the slapping of fresh PSA against Alam condemned it and said that authorities are not “honoring court orders as if the said orders have no sanctity”.

It may be recalled that, the State High Court had only ten days back quashed detention order of Alam and directed the authorities to release him. However, he was booked in a case registered in 2015 in Kupwara district when he was out of jail only for 40 days.

Quoting Supreme Court ruling, he said, the apex court has time again stressed that without any fresh facts no detention order can be passed. The spokesman said adding “but detention orders against Alam are passed without taking court orders into consideration.

Alam who spearheaded the 2010 agitation was arrested in October same year. (Kashmir Wire)
