Sonmarg, Gulmarg receives season’s first snowfall

Srinagar: After a brief shower of rains brought a sigh of relief to the people in the valley, upper reaches of the region received season’s first snowfall during the intervening night of 14-15 November.

According to the reports, Gulmarg witnessed snowfall at around 10:30 pm on Tuesday which continued for about an hour. However, the clear weather and early morning sunshine today left no traces of snow in the lower parts of Gulmarg.

Meanwhile, Sonamarg and Naranag in upper reaches of  Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district received the season’s first snowfall in the wee hours on Wednesday.

According to the reports, the snowfall began at around 3 am. Light snowfall was recorded in Sonamarg, Naranag and Thajwas while rains in plains in Ganderbal, they said.

Light snowfall was also received in south Kashmir’s Pehalgam region during the night. According to the sources, light snowfall was witnessed in Chandanwari and Aru villages of Pehalgam.
