Two slain militants buried amidst high pitch sloganeering

Sopore:  Thousands of people on Tuesday participated in the funeral processions of slain Hizbul Mujahideen militant Toib Majeed Mir and his associate Ashiq Ahmed Bhat at their ancestral villages in North Kashmir, despite heavy deployment of security forces.

Toib and his associate Ashiq were killed in a gunfight at Sultanpora area in Zachaldara Handwara of district Kupwara on Monday evening.

According to reports slain Toib’s body was carried by mourners amid intense sloganeering from his home to a local ground where his funeral prayers were held.

Amid pro-freedom, pro-Pakistan and anti-India slogans, people both men, women and children were seen wailing and had assembled in the Brath village to take part in last rites of the slain militant.

Toib Majeed Mir, 25, Son of Abdul Majeed, a resident of Brath Kalan had joined militant ranks last year. He along with Aijaz Shiekh had gone missing in May 2016; Aijaz was killed in a gunfight with security forces at Nathipora last year. Toib is the fourth militant from Brath village to be gunned down by security forces this year.

Similarly, in Palhalan, a highway town on Srinagar-Baramulla road, thousands of mourners participated in the funeral of Ashiq Husain Bhat. According to reports, Ashiq was the last surviving militant from the Palhalan village in Pattan tehsil of Baramulla district. (Kashmir Wire)
