Gunmen threaten ‘political worker’ in Shopian village

 

Srinagar: Suspected militants have once again threatened a political worker in South Kashmir’s Shopian district. A video which went viral on Monday showed the victim being stripped and thrashed mercilessly by unidentified militants.

According to the reports, the voices in the video which could not be verified independently are believed to be that of Hizb commander Riyaz Naikoo.

“Are we (fighting) for ourselves? We have to end the tyranny here, so, why you support them. Be it policeman, army, they are not our friends. Even if they are our blood brothers, they can’t be friends. You will repent from now onwards,” the gunmen are being heard telling the youth in the video.

According to the reports, the victim was identified as Gulzar Ahmad, a deputy Sarpanch affiliated to the Indian National Congress (INC).

Earlier, last month, militants have threatened many political workers including that of ruling PDP and opposition National Conference (NC).

A youth president of BJP was also killed when his throat was slit by the suspected militants on November 2.

On Oct 16 a PDP worker identified as Muhammad Ramzan Sheikh was killed by militants in Chak Homehuna area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district and during the scuffle with the family members of the slain worker, one Hizb militant got also killed.

Just hours after the incident, an angry mob set ablaze Sheikh’s house as according to them, the Hizb militant Showkat was killed by the family of Sheikh.

On October 18, a throat slit dead body of Aijaz Ahmed a government teacher by profession, resident of Gatipora Shopian was found in Wathoo village of Shopian district. The militants labeled him as an informer while as the troops labeled him an OWG, who was working for the militants.

On Nov 2, Shopian district youth wing president of Bharatiya Janata Party was brutally murdered by unknown persons. BJP youth leader Gowhar Ahmad’s dead body was found in Kiloora village and the throat of the deceased was slit.

On 21 Oct (Saturday late evening) militants reportedly, barged into the houses of three mainstream party workers, a policeman and a territorial army man in Pulwama and Shopian district, ransacked their houses and at most places fired some shots in air before leaving from the spot.

The workers whose houses were ransacked include Mohammad Ashraf from Dadsara Tral, Fayaz Ahmed From Watchi Shopian and Abdul Hamid from Renzipora Pulwama.
