Samboora gunfight: Militant, 2 army men killed

Srinagar: A militant and two Indian army soldiers were killed in a gunfight between forces and militants on Thursday in Samboora area of southern Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The militant killed in the gunfight was identified as Badar, who was associated with Jaish-e-Mohammad, reports said.

Two militants are believed to have given slip to forces during the encounter.

The encounter started Thursday evening when Police and the forces started a cordon and search operation in Samboora following intelligence inputs about the presence of militants there.

As joint team of forces intensified the searches and fired some warning shots towards a suspected spot, the hiding militants believed to be two in number opened fire, triggering off an encounter. In the ensuing gunfight two Army soldiers were injured. The forces retaliated, killing one militant. Later, both the soldiers succumbed to their injuries, they said. The operation came to an end late last night.

Meanwhile, Internet services were suspended in Pulwama district.
