Chattabal tourist destination rues official apathy

Anantnag: The state government’s claims over the expansion of tourism industry has fallen flat on the ground as the administration has failed to develop Chattabal, a tourist destination in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Locals claimed that the authorities have failed to develop the destination like others in the Valley.

They added if Chattabal will be developed on modern lines it can provide employment to thousands of people.

Locals said that the government has enlisted hundreds of destinations including Chattabal as tourist resorts and claimed to have developed these resorts.

However, the government claims fall flat on the ground as the administration has failed to develop Chattabal so far as the area is sans electricity, roads and other basic amenities.

The negligence of officials has proven to be detrimental to the flow of tourists to Chattabal.

Interestingly, Chattabal of Chitergul- Shangas area of Anantnag district is merely 20 kms away from the famous Mughal Garden of Achabal.

The locals told that the development of Chhatabal can be taken in hand and the move will attract thousands of visitors.

It can also serve as the destination for adventure tourism as the famous Margan-top is adjacent to the area.

Additional Secretary Tourism, Gulzar Ahmed Dar told Kashmir Vision that the government is yet to establish a Tourism Development Authority (TDA) there.

He added that soon after the establishment of TDA, the destination will be developed on priority basis.
