05 notorious drug peddlers arrested in Kupwara: Police

Srinagar : Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested five notorious drug peddlers and recovered 2.5 kilograms of charas from their possession.

A police spokesman said that acting on a specific information, the special team constituted by Kupwara police to eradicate the drug menace from the society, has arrested 05 notorious drug peddlers from three different locations of the district and recovered 2.5 kilograms of charas from their possession.

Police identified the arrested drug peddlers as Mohammad Yousuf Pod resident of Gagal Katiyawali, Mohammad Shafi Katariya resident of Badgagal, Nisar Ahmad Ganai resident of Manzhar Hyhama, Shabir Ahmad Mir resident of Dardpora Kralpora and Khalid Ahmad Bajad resident of Dardpora Kralpora.

Cases under NDPS Act have been registered and investigation is in progress, besides, more arrests are expected.

Worth to mention that during the special drive against drug peddlers, Kupwara police has achieved major successes during the current year by arresting 40 notorious drug peddlers involved in drug peddling/narcotic smuggling. So far, 22 Kilograms of Charas, 02 kilograms of Heroine, 4.5 kilograms of Brown Sugar, large quantity of codeine and capsules have been recovered from the possession of arrested drug peddlers.

One cross LoC narcotic smuggling module has also been busted by arresting 04 notorious cross LoC narcotic smugglers from Karnah area and recovered huge quantity of heroine and brown sugar.

People of the Kupwara have eulogized the role of Police for launching effective campaign against drug peddlers and sale of psychotropic substances with according to locals are adversely affecting and ruining the future of the youth of the area. They have also thanked the Inspector General of Police Shri  S.P Vaid under whose patronage J&K Police is committed to eradicate the drug menace from the society which is one of the commandments of J&K Police for the year 2017.

District Police Kupwara has appealed the local residents to come forward and help the police to eradicate this menace from the society as this anti-drug drive shall continue to make the society drug free. District Police Kupwara also appealed the parents of addicted youth to come forward without any social stigma and avail the free facilities of drug de-addiction created by J&K Police at de- Addiction Centre PCR Srinagar.
