Shutdown only way to express resentment, says Mirwaiz

Srinagar: Asserting that shutdown is the only way to express resentment, Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Thursday termed Oct 27 as ‘black day’ in Kashmir.

Mirwaiz also reiterated the JRL’s shutdown call on Oct 27 (Friday) against the landing of India to Kashmir on this day in 1947.

Mirwaiz while talking to reporters said that the shutdown is the only way to express resentment against India.

“India entered in Kashmir on this day back in 1947. Keeping in view of the India’s forcible entry to Kashmir, the JRL has called for a shutdown to protest against it on Friday. The shutdown is a way to express our resentment,” he said.

He said that the freedom struggle will continue till any logical conclusion.

The Mirwaiz further said that India is trying to deal Kashmir militarily, which is unacceptable to the people of Kashmir. “Kashmir is the highly militarized zone and besides that several black laws have been put in place by the government. The government is trying to deal Kashmiri people including its leadership through military might, which is unacceptable. Besides, the prayers are being barred, which shows that they want to suppress the voices of Kashmiri people by military might,” he said.

He further said that Kashmir issue must be resolved as per the aspirations of the people. “There are two possible approaches to address the Kashmir issue. One is the implementation of UN resolutions while the other is alternative negotiate settlement i.e dialogue. Any settlement over the Kashmir issue must accommodate the aspirations of people,” he said.
