Minister stresses on creating innovative avenues to boost Agro business

Srinagar:  Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura today asked the officials of government-run Jammu and Kashmir Agro Industries Development Corporation (JKAIDC) to create new avenues of business for making the corporation a profitable organization.

The Minister was speaking at the annual general meetings of JKAIDC here today. The meeting was also attended by Vice Chairman JKAIDC Rashid Ahmad, Principal Secretary Agriculture Production Department, Sundeep Kumar Nayak, MD JKAIDC, Rakesh Khajuria, Director Agriculture Kashmir, Altaf Aijaz Andrabi, Director Agriculture Jammu H K Razdan and other senior officials.

During the meeting, threadbare discussions were held on issues pertaining to status of accounts of the Corporation, short term and long term strategy, business plan for next 5 years, modernization of Cattle Feed Plant, Bari Brahmana, besides cold store plant at New Delhi and functioning of sales outlets.

Hanjura called upon the Corporation officials to adopt business options on professional lines and come up to the expectations of the people. He directed that officials of the Agro-Industry to formulate short and long turn plans so that business of agro products increases. He also said that Saffron business should be enhanced up to Rs 5 crore this season.

Referring to financial position of the Corporation, Hanjura also directed the JKAIDC to prepare a balance sheet of the corporation by March 2018 so that it would provide them information about the liquidity position of the corporation.

Saying that there is need to infuse new blood in the functioning of the Corporation to make it more vibrant, the Minister said innovative measures are needed to be taken by the Corporation.

Speaking in reference to the functioning of the Cold Storage Plant, Ice Factory in Delhi and Cattle Feed Plant at Bari Brahmana (Jammu), the Minister, while expressing satisfaction with their functioning, said that these plants have earned a reasonable profit for the Corporation.
