Centre to start sustained dialogue in J&K : Home Minister

Srinagar: The Centre will soon start sustained dialogue in J&K to understand the state’s aspiration, Home Minster Rajnath Singh said on Monday.

He said that former Intelligence Bureau chief Dineshwar Sharma has been appointed the National Representative for the Government of India in Kashmir.

Addressing a press conference, home minister Rajnath Singh said Sharma will open talks with elected representatives of Jammu and Kashmir, political parties and other organisations.

Asked if the separatist Hurriyat Conference would be part of the dialogue, the minister said it was up to Sharma to decide whose rank would be equivalent to that of a cabinet secretary.

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah tweeted: “…Will keep an open mind & wait to see results of the dialogue process.”

Pertinently, Dineswar Sharma had personally supervised the operation against Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani whose killing by the security forces resulted in unrest in Jammu and Kashmir for months together.
