Minister inspects proposed modern fish market, retail outlet sites in Srinagar

Srinagar: Minister of State for Forest, Environment, Fisheries, Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Cooperatives, Mir Zahoor Ahmad today inspected the sites identified for setting up of modern wholesale fish market and retail outlet in Tangipora and Parimpora areas of Batamaloo Constituency of Srinagar.

MLA Batamaloo, Noor Mohammad Sheikh also accompanied the Minister during the visit.

On the occasion, the Fisheries Department apprised the Minister about the progress of acquisition of land already identified for establishment of fish market and retail outlets. It was informed that an amount of Rs 3.24 crore have already been sanctioned for setting up of these projects.

The upcoming hygienic fish market would consist of 10 wholesale shops and 50 retail stalls. It will be having all the requisite facilities including cold storage, ice plant, dry fish arrangements, besides having effluent treatment plant.

The revenue authorities informed Mir Zahoor that 7 kanals of land at Parimpora have already been handed over to Fisheries Department while as the stay for 11 kanals of Kachari land at Tangipora has been vacated. 

On the occasion, the Minister directed the Fisheries Department to work with utmost dedication and in synergy with the Revenue Department and take possession of the land at an earliest so that work can be started at an earliest.

Mir Zahoor said that setting up of a hygienic and scientific fish market replete with all the modern facilities was much felt in the district and directed the concerned to ensure early starting of work for time-bound completion of the projects.
