Police books 55 people for drug peddling in Rajouri

 

In a major offensive against drug peddlers in Rajouri district, police during a drive against the drug menace registered as many as 34 cases and arrested 55 persons for being involved in the trade.

“The team during their drive against the drug menace have registered 34 cases against the drug peddlers, arrested 55 persons besides effecting huge recovery of contrabands and other intoxicants,” a police spokesman said.

He said that the Director General of Police (DGP), Dr. S.P Vaid appreciated and even rewarded the team comprising 11 officers and other police officials of Rajouri police for their sustained pro-active drive against drugs in the district.

DGP while sanctioning the reward of Rs.45,000/- and class-I commendation certificate for the anti-drug team has hoped that Rajouri police under the command of SSP Rajouri, Yougal Manhas

“JKP will continue the drive with more intensity and commitment so that the menace is whipped out from the society in the district,” the spokesman added.

He said that during the drive more than 147 kgs of bhang, 2.160 gms brown sugar, 600gms opium, 6.700 gms ganja, 3936 intoxicant capsules, 631 gms charas, 190 tablets and 82 injections have been recovered by the team. The action has far reach effect on the drug peddlers and most of the peddlers have got streamlined into the civil society.

Due to this intensified drive there was considerable increase in the registration of cases as well as persons arrested. 55 persons were arrested while 23 drug peddlers were bound down under Cr.PC. and lodged in District Jail Dhangri for a period of one month under deterrent action against drug peddlers. Rajouri police also initiated the profiling of the drug peddlers and increased efforts were used to know deeper about the modus operandi adopted by the peddlers.

Sports tournaments under Civic Action Programme (CAP) are being regularly organised to involve youth of the district in sports activities. The district has fixed a target of four visits by Dy.SP/SHOs in the educational institutions in a month for creating awareness about the ill effects of the drug abuse among the students.
