Braid chopping row: Lawyers stage protest

 

A group lawyers from Bar Association Baramulla and Sopore staged peaceful protests at their respective places against the rising incidents of braid chopping in Kashmir valley since last one month.

According to reports, a group of lawyers headed by president bar Association Sopore, Mir Mohammad Maqbool took out a peaceful protest march which started from court complex Sopore to the main Chowk Sopore.

The lawyers shouted slogans against the government for failing to provide safety and security for the women folk. They demanded measures to stop braid chopping incidents.

Meanwhile, in Baramulla town, the lawyers demanded action against the braid choppers. Scores of lawyers took part in a rally from court office to the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Baramulla to register their protest against braid chopping. The lawyers were carrying banners asking to save the dignity of women in Kashmir. The protest ended peacefully.

Braid chopping incidents have created scare among the people in the valley. About 130 incidents of braid chopping were reported across the valley from last few weeks. Police has announced six lac rupee reward for those who provide any information on braid chopping. However, only few victims have voluntarily registered cases with police. The police say that victims refuse to file testimonies in the cases.
