Landslides on Kashmir highway disrupt traffic for hours

Traffic on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was disrupted for several hours this morning due to fresh landslides.

Traffic on the highway was disrupted early this morning due to fresh landslides at Ramsoo, a traffic police official said.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and other agencies, responsible for the maintenance of the highway, immediately put in to service sophisticated machines and men and cleared the landslides, caused due to widening of road.

Traffic was resumed after several hours disruption, he said.

However, he said, the light vehicles will ply from both sides, while heavy traffic will continue to ply one-way till further orders.
