‘Jashan-e-Dal’ : DGP declares Water Sports Festival open

 

Water sports festival “Jashan-E-Dal and Shikara Race – 2017” being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police in the world famous Dal Lake, was declared open at a colourful function held at Nehru Park this afternoon. Various water sports events including Shikara Race will be organised during the 3-day festival.

Declaring open the festival, Director General of Police (DGP), Dr. S.P Vaid said that the event is being held under Civic Action Programme with the aim to engaging the youth in healthy competitions of sports so that face of every youth shines with smiles.

Dr. Vaid said that Jammu and Kashmir Police organises various sports activities under CAP for the holistic development of State youth to channelize their energies in positive directions. He said that a number of sports programmes have been charted out, lined up and are going on throughout the state which are providing a platform to the youth to showcase their talent. Referring to the achievements of the state in the water sports, Dr. Vaid hoped that the players and teams of the state will touch new heights in future.

Earlier, in his welcome address ADGP (Armed) L. Mohanti gave a brief resume of the events being organised. He said that after the successful organisation of “Run for Peace” the Janshn-E-Dal is the second such programme to involve young people in sports competition in Kashmir, on a large scale.

Chairman of the Organising Committee IGP (Armed) S.A Mujtba presented vote of thanks.

Among others, Commandant General HG/CD/SDRF Dilbag Singh, Chairperson Police Wives Welfare Association (PWWA) Bharti Vaid and galaxy of serving and retired officers, officers of CAPFs, members of PWWA were present on this occasion.

Dragon boat, Cano-Polo, water ski, Water Polo swimming, free style swimming of Boys, relay swimming, Kayaking, Canoeing, Various water sports persons and bodies are participating in the festival. The festival will conclude on 20th September and various sports bodies and persons are participating in the festival.

On the occasion a canopolo match was played between Mendhi Club and Living Kashmir teams.
