Man booked for renting out plot to Rohingyas

Channi Himmat police has booked a man for allegedly renting out his plot to Rohingyas.

According to sources, a man namely Jagdish Chander of Ramnagar, Udhampur, who is presently putting up in Channi Rama area in city outskirts has been booked for allegedly allowing Rohingyas to set up Jhuggies in his abandoned plot.

They said that he had allowed the families to construct Jhuggies in his plot without informing the police.

Locals had also lodged a complaint to police alleging that Rohingyas were involved in sacrilegious act wherein a cow carcass was found in the same area last week. Irked over the incident, a strong protest was also staged by the locals at Malik Market in Narwal area on the National Highway.

Meanwhile, SHO Police Station Channi Himmat, Inspector Sajjad Mir said, “The matter is being investigated but a case has been registered as the landlord has not provided the details and initials of persons living in his plot.”

“Police department has made it mandatory for all citizens of the region to inform to the concerned police stations about their tenants with details,” SHO added and said that Jagdish Chander has not followed the norms.

A case under section 188 of RPC has been registered and investigation initiated, said the SHO.

Police has asked all the plot holders to provide details of people staying in their plots.

Action will be taken against all those who have allowed Rohingyas to construct Jhuggies in the plots, police said.
