The locals said that the dilapidated condition of Khrew-Zantrag road has resulted in the immense hardships to the commuters as well the pedestrians.

They said that the road has developed potholes while the authorities are acting mute spectator thereby leaving the thousands of commuters to lurch.

The locals rued that though authorities undertook black-topping of road from Pampore to Khrew via Wuyan but the road stretch from Khrew to Zantrag was ignored.

“We are facing immense problems due to the dilapidated road. The road has caved in at several places, posing risk to commuters. It is ironic that authorities are resorting to dilly-dallying tactics to repair the vital road,” said Bashir Ahmad, a local said.

The road is of vital importance as it leads to all cement factories including JK cements, and other industries.

“Due to the dilapidated condition of road, our vehicles have got damaged,” said a group of drivers.

“Keeping on view of presence of cement factories, there should have been a well maintained road but the authorities have failed to macadamize this road, which has made our lives miserable,” said Shabir Ahmad, a resident of Zantrag.

Admitting the facts that road is in shambles, Exen R&B Pulwama, Sajad Ahmad said, “We have sent a project plan to government of India for an alternative road to this area, which is yet to be approved.”

He added that due to the non-availability of an alternate route, the road stretch was not macadamized. “In case we start macadamization of the road, it will result in the hardships to the general public as well as the industrialists,” he said.
