Grenade blast shatters calm in Srinagar City 

The lull in Srinagar city was shattered after suspected militants lobbed a grenade towards a Para-military Central Reserve Police Force vehicle near Jehangir Chowk which exploded with a bang killing a civilian and injuring 18 others.

Police sources said that as soon as a CRPF vehicle was passing through the crowded area on Thursday afternoon, militants lobbed a grenade which however, missed the intended target and exploded on the road.

Eyewitnesses said that the grenade was lobbed near Exhibition Crossing when market was abuzz with activity.

City Police Chief, Imtiyaz Ismayel Parray told reporters that the man who lobbed the grenade was also injured. He said that wounded have been referred to Hospital for treatment.

Hospital sources said that an injured who hails from Ompora Budgam succumbed to his injuries. Police sources identified the slain as Masood Ahmed Shah.

Maqsood Shah son of Ali Mohammad shah of Zolwa was a carpenter by profession and he was working in Nishat area from the past three weeks.

Reports said that Maqsood is married and having two kids (Faizan age 10yrs) and daughter Seerat (age 8yrs).

Meanwhile, a police spokesman said that militants on Thursday evening hurled a grenade at Jehangir Chowk, which exploded in the busy market, claiming one life and injuring about 13 persons.

Fourteen persons were injured in a terrorist attack, after they hurled a grenade at Jehangir Chowk in which about 14 persons including a Traffic Police personnel were injured, the spokesman added.

 The injured were shifted  to SMHS Hospital for treatment where one of the injured identified as Maqsood Ahmad Shah son of Ali Mohammad Shah resident of Budgam succumbed to his injuries. The Traffic police personnel was shifted to Police Hospital, Srinagar for treatment. The investigation of the incident is going on, the spokesman added.
