Legislator blames centre for Kashmir unrest

Sitting member of the Legislative Council and National Conference district President Shopian, Showkat Hussian Ganaie Thursday blamed the central government for the present unrest in Kashmir Valley.

Speaking to Kashmir Vision in an interview, Ganaie said that the wrong policies of the Union government are taking the state from bad to worse.

“It is not due to wrong policies of present state government but it is due to wrong policies of the central government that the condition is going from bad to worse, which is a serious concern,” he said.

Ganaie had earlier called Hizb militant commander Burhan Wani a martyr in Jammu and Kashmir Legislative assembly after which, BJP filed an FIR against him.

“What I said is right. Everyone says that Jammu and Kashmir is a political issue and anyone who wants to solve this issue and sacrifices his life for it, I call him a martyr,” he said.

On educated youth joining the militant ranks, he said that it is all due to the wrong policies of the government.

“If we only talk of Shopian district there are 32 local militants active in the district as per police records. Ninety percent of them are highly qualified. This is all due to the environment created by the government that more and more youths are joining the militant ranks,” the legislator said.

On Article 35A, he said that his party National Conference will do whatever is needed to defend it.

“Even if we have to sacrifice our lives for safeguarding the act, we are ready,” he added.

“Our party president Farooq Abdullah has already sought the support of other parties, mainstream leaders, separatists, and civil societies to support us so that attempts to abrogate 35 A will not turn into a reality,” he added.
