The residents of Vessu area of Qazigund Wednesday staged a protest on Srinagar-Jammu highway at against the department of Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for failing to provide potable water to them.

The protesters including men, women and children assembled at the highway and blocked it for hours. They were demanding the immediate restoration of the drinking water supply in the area.

The blockage of the highway also resulted in the traffic mess for several hours.

The protesting residents said told Kashmir Vision, “We are not getting drinking water from past several weeks due to which the residents here are being forced to drink dirty water of nearby streams.”

They said that the authorities are ignoring the plights of the residents and don’t even bother to look into the sufferings of the inhabitants. “The department must restore the water supply immediately so that the locals here could feel a sigh of relief,” they said.

Meanwhile, the residents later dispersed peacefully.

Despite repeated attempts, the officials of PHE Division Qazigund couldn’t be contacted for the comments.
