Verinag residents condemn frequent power cuts

As the Kashmir Valley is going through summers presently, the Power Development Department (PDD), seems a bit in a hurry to take consumers for a ride. The department has started implementing unscheduled curtailments in South Kashmir’s Verinag area.

“Residents of Verinag are facing a lot of problems as the PDD has stared massive curtailment in the area, even the metered areas are not being spared with the department going for power curtailment at will,” said Abdul Hamid, a local resident.

‘Kashmir Vision’ received many complaints from the area as angry residents alleged that the PDD is making the lives of common people miserable during the peak summer months.

“We are facing regular power cuts from last many day even the area is fully metered,”said Mohammad Sultan, a local resident of Verinag.

He said that every year PDD comes with a same excuse of less generation and more demand.

“Despite power tariff being raised so many times during past years, PDD has nothing to offer to its consumers except lame excuses,” he added.

The residents said that the MOS PDD Syed Farooq Ahmad Indrabi had promised 24 hours power supply in the area during election campaign in the area in 2014 Elections.

The residents said that after becoming the MLA he never bothered to even get a feed back from his own constituency which got him elected to the chair he is holding.

People of the area have appealed the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti to interfere in the matter so that the residents may feel some respite.
