Schools to remain closed in Kupwara today, says official

All schools will remain closed in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district today in view of the killing of a civilian in an alleged fake encounter.

According to the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, all schools will remain closed in the district “as a precautionary measure”.

Shahid Bashir Mir, a resident of Daril Tarathpora, was killed in an alleged fake encounter by army in Hafrada forest of Handwara on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, normal life remained crippled in many parts of the district yesterday for the second successive day due to the shutdown against killing of a youth in a ‘fake encounter’ by the Army in Handwara.

According to report all shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads.

Pertinently, the government on Friday ordered a magisterial inquiry into the killing of the third year student Shahid Bashir Mir, who army claimed was part of the militant group that was trapped in Hafrada forests in Handwara.
