Hurriyat (M) condemns house detention of Mirwaiz

Hurriyat Conference (M) Wednesday condemned the government’s decision of placing the chairman of the amalgam, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house detention once again at his Nigeen residence, thereby baring him yet again from carrying out political, social and religious activities.

Hurriyat (M) spokesman according to the statement issued here said that it was just five days back, Mirwaiz was set free from the 57-day long house detention and again government once again caged him at his home.

Spokesman termed the move as ‘ultimate form of repression and political vendetta’.

He said confining Mirwaiz to his house reflects the oppressive thinking of the government. “By the fresh move of the government and its forces, it has once again got clarified that whenever they wish and whosoever they wish, can be arrested detained or placed under house arrest. Placing Mirwaiz under house arrest also reflects government’s frustration and paranoia by any activity of the Hurriyat (M) chairman,” he said.

Spokesman said though arresting and keeping the pro-freedom leadership under house is nothing new in Kashmir now and has become routine, people of Kashmir understand the iron-fist approach adopted by the government and its forces towards resistance leadership in a bid to silence them and to build pressure on them from raising voice of people.

Hurriyat (M) Spokesman said the stubborn and rigid approach adopted by the government in J&K will neither muzzle nor stop the leadership and people of Kashmir from demanding their birth right, which is right to self-determination.

Spokesman said all such repressive measures as in the past will taste defeat.

Meanwhile, the spokesman condemned the house to house searches in Aribal, Tral and thrashing of inmates, forces are harassing and punishing innocent people under the garb of hunt of armed youth.

Spokesman also condemned the use of force and teargas shelling on students of Degree College Anantnag.

The spokesman also expressed sympathy with those whose houses got damaged in the deadly blaze in Dalipora, Pulwama and demanded the immediate rehabilitation of the affected families.
