Mirwaiz placed under house arrest again

Authorities on Wednesday placed Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman and chief cleric of Central Mosque in Srinagar, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest after he was released last Friday after two months.

“Put once again under #HouseArrest just four days after I was released after two months!,” Mirwaiz tweeted.

Earlier, Mirwaiz had announced “special prayers” on Friday at Jamia Masjid, Srinagar and appealed people to participate.

Mirwaiz was placed under house arrest on the intervening night of 23-24 June, the night Dy SP Ayoub Pandith was lynched outside the Jamia Masjid premises in the old city of Srinagar. However, after two months of house arrest, he was released on Friday last week.
