Article 35A Row: Police foils protest march by traders

Police Monday foiled an attempt by trade body, Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA), to lead a protest march against the abrogation of Article 35A. The protesters had plans to march towards RajBhavan in Srinagar.

Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) co-chairman Farooq Ahmed Dar along with half a dozen members tried to march towards Governor House in Srinagar early Monday. The protestors carrying banners and placards were raising slogans against any move to abrogate Article 35A. However, as the protesters tried to move ahead, a group of policemen detained the trade leaders.

The traders led by Farooq Ahmad  Dar assembled had at Srinagar’s press enclave to lodge their protest after holding a sit-in at Press Colony Srinagar.

Talking to reporters Kashmir Economic Alliance co-chairman Farooq Ahmed Dar called for hoisting black flags over all the residential houses, commercial establishments like shops and important landmarks and squares on the day hearing of the case will take place in the apex court.

 “Our amalgam has called for the protest march from Press Enclave to High court on August 29 to lodge protest against the attempts to abrogate Article 35-A and we will submit the memorandum to Chief Justice of High court on the issue,” Farooq Ahmad Dar said.
