KEG adopts its constitution, forms Ethics Committee

Kashmir Editors Guild (KEG) has adopted its constitution and given a go ahead to the formation of Ethics Committee.

A day-long session of the KEG executive body was held here on August 13, with Guild President, F A Kaloo in the chair.  During the session, the executive body discussed the draft constitution threadbare and finally adopted the constitution.

Following the adoption of the constitution, the executive body gave a formal nod to the formation of Ethics Committee.  Members of the Committee would be nominated soon.

At the outset the meeting discussed overall challenges Kashmir media is facing and ways to overcome them. The KEG session discussed all the relevant issues confronting the local newspapers in particular and the media fraternity in general and vowed to keep the torch of free expression high despite all odds.

The executive body delegated powers to both the Vice Presidents to remain in constant touch with the Department of Information and Public Relations to look into and deal with the issues confronting the newspapers. The Vice Presidents would be assisted by Bashir Manzar, Haroon Rashid and Shafat Kirra, when and where their assistance would be needed.

It was also decided that KEG would liaison with different media bodies and in this regard the Vice Presidents would be assisted by Tahir Mohiudin and Ghulam Jeelani Qadri. 

It was also decided in the meeting that the newspapers were constrained to enhance prices following the new tax regime which has resulted into a sudden surge in the printing costs including newsprint and other related materials.

The day-long session, that was presided over by the KEG President, Fayaz A Kaloo was attended by Bashir Ahmad Bashir (Vice President), Sajjad Haidar (Vice President), Bashir Manzar (Gen Secretary), Harooq Rashid (Treasurer), Shujaat Bukhari, Tahir Mohiudin, Manzoor Anjum, Masood Hussain, Shamim Meraj, Ghulam Jeelani Qadri and Raja Mohiudin.
