Pulwama encounter: Injured youth succumbs, civilian death toll reaches two 

 

A civilian injured during clashes in Pulwama district on Tuesday breathed his last at SKIMS Soura, officials said on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Akeel Ahmad Bhat from Gabarpora Haal village. He was injured during clashes when government forces opened fire to disperse protesters marching towards the encounter site  in Hakripora village yesterday.

A civilian and two militants including Let commander Abu Dujana were killed in an encounter in Pulwama on Tuesday.

“Civilian was killed due to cross firing,” police had said.

Akeel was shifted to District Hospital Pulwama on Tuesday where from he was referred to SKIMS Soura for further treatment.

An official at the hospital said that Bhat succumbed during morning hours of Wednesday.

Pertinently, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) had also called for a protest shutdown on Wednesday against the civilian killings and two militants.

Around 40 civilians were injured during protests after Dujana and Lelhari were killed. Several of them suffered bullet injuries.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in Kashmir valley and Banihal town on Wednesday  to protest the killing of two civilian in forces’ firing during clashes in Pulwama on Tuesday.

All shops and other business establishments remained closed in Kashmir  while public transport is off the roads.

Massive clashes erupted in Gabarpora village of Pulwama district of south Kashmir on Wednesday after the funeral prayers of a civilian who succumbed at SK Institute of Medical Sciences Soura earlier today.

Witnesses said that men, women and children threw stones at government forces deployed outside the CRPF camp in Haal village of Shopian, to express their anger against killing of Akeel Ahmad Bhat.

They said the forces  retaliated  by bursting teargas shells on the protesting youth.
