Geelani condemns Aqeel’s death

Condemning the killing of Pulwama youth, Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani Wednesday said that forces feel trigger happy and resort to un-proportionate and unjustified force against peaceful civilians.

Expressing his deep grief over the killing of one more civilian Aqeel Ahmad, Geelanis said that it is highly condemnable. He also extended his condolences and sympathy with the grieved family.

The statement issued said that the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) leaders and activists offered funeral prayers in absentia for youth slain during gunfight in Hakhripora Pulwama.

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leaders and its activists including Umar Adil Dar, Mukhtar Ahmed, Sufi, Hafiz Mudasir Nadvi, Ashfaq Ahmed Khan, Abdul Ahad Bath, Umar Rafiq and a huge number of participants participated in funeral prayers and while paying tributes to slain youth said, “We are indebted for their supreme sacrifices for ongoing freedom struggle.”

Expressing concern over the ill plight of prisoners lodged in Kathua, the statement added that as per reports pouring, situation in Kathua Jail are extremely horrible.

The statement reads that detainees are stripped naked and subjected to extreme brutality and torture by jail staff even in presence of their family members and those visiting jail.

Strongly denouncing jail authorities for their callous and brutal behavior,

Hurriyat (G) said that virtually they have turned the jail like that of infamous Abu Ghareeb.

The Spokesman said after an interval of fifteen days the detainees can meet their families and hence most of the detainees don’t get a chance to see their families or relatives.

“Visitors are ill-treated and humiliated by jail staff. Hygienic conditions in jail and particularly in kitchen are poor and substandard food items are provided to prisoners,” he said, adding that no proper treatment is provided to those lodged in jail.

 “The policy of the government regarding the prisoners is extremely harsh and unfair which indicates the level of respect which the rulers have towards the human and moral values,” the spokesman said.

Hurriyat (G) disclosed that there is a single water cooler for two barks and water supply is denied after the barracks are locked.

“The situations are extremely appalling,” said the Hurriyat (G) leader, adding that as a routine prisoner can move out just for one hour and consequently are facing extreme mental torture.
