After remaining non functional for of several months, the Aadhaar Enrolment Centre has been made functional again in Ganderbal district with the residents of several remote areas of this district demanding Adhaar enrolment centres in their native places.
The residents of Ganiwan, Gund, Rayil, Kullan,Tulmulla and other adjoining villages, said they were facing immense problems in getting themselves enrolled for the aadhar as the Aadhar centre at Kangan has to cater to a huge population.
Irked over long wait in the serpentine lines to get Aadhaar enrollment, the locals also blocked Srinagar-Leh highway for hours at Kangan while demanding an increase in the number of Aadhaar centers in the entire district for prompt functioning of the Aadhaar enrolment for the people.
“We have to come 20-30 kilometres down from our villages to Adhaar centre at Kangan town,” protesters said adding that besides our children and females face inconvenience while travelling to this place.”
Asserting that a single enrollment centre of Aadhaar in Kangan is not enough to cater to a large population, the villagers urged district administration to establish more enrollment centres .
“The Aadhar is mandatory for various things and district administration should set up Adhaar centres at village and block levels so that people won’t suffer,” Sajid Wani a resident of Kangan said.
Sources said that presently only seven Aadhar enrolment centres are operational in whole district Ganderbal that include three at Ganderbal, 2 in Lar and 2 in Kangan.
Meanwhile, official sources said that they have already notified dates for Aadhar enrolment for villages of Ganderbal district and the process will be completed soon.
