Water shortage sparks protest in Sopore village

Residents of Amargrah area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday staged protest demonstration and kept Srinagar-Sopore National Highway blocked for long time over water scarcity in the area.

A large number of locals, especially women, raised slogans against Public Health Engineering (PHE) department and also blocked road for traffic movement and alleged that they face tremendous hardships due to an acute shortage of water supply from last one week.

The inhabitants alleged that PHE department has failed to provide them water supply as per schedule since one week.

According to reports after traffic movement was stopped in the area, a local police team reached on the spot and assured protesters that the matter will be brought in the notice of concerned department officers and will be redressed soon.

Meanwhile Executive Engineer PHE Sopore told that due to the old water pipe lines the inhabitants are facing hardships and are not getting water as per schedule, however the executive engineer PHE Sopore told that we will upgrade those old water pipe lines within short period of time and the demand of residents will be solved.
