Army opens fire after altercation, leaves civilian injured

Army on Monday afternoon fired upon civilians after an altercation at Bijbehara in Anantnag that left one of them injured.

A civilian sustained injuries after Army resorted to firing in Bijbehara town of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

According to officials Army soldiers stopped and started thrashing a man riding on a scoter. On seeing him being beaten ruthlessly, locals tried to intervene.

However Army soldiers, according to locals, opened fire injuring a civilian. The injured was identified as Mohammad Abdullah Ganai, a resident of Hassanpora. He was shifted to Srinagar for advanced treatment.

As per eye-witnesses an army vehicle had hit the scooter borne man. But instead of coming to his rescue, armed men instantly alighted from their vehicles. The army personnel pounced and mercilessly beat up the man which prompted the pedestrians and shopkeepers to intervene leading to an altercation.

The army men fired few shots towards the crowd in which the civilian was injured. Following the incident local protested against the Army.
