CM reiterates at party meet: Amarnath yatra setback to Kashmiriyat

Chief Minister and PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti, has reiterated at the party meeting that the attack on Amarnath yatris in which seven  pilgrims were killed was a setback to Kashmiriyat.

Chairing the meeting of the party functionaries at her Gupkar residence today in connection with the party day function, CM reiterated that it was the duty of PDP leaders to ensure that the communal harmony in the state was not impaired.

Former Minister and PDP leader, Qazi Mohammad Afzal, said that the CM expressed displeasure over the incident and reiterated that it was set back and blot to the Kashmiriyat.

In the meeting it was decided that the party’s foundation day will be commemorated on Sunday, 30, instead of July 28.

“Since July 28 is a Friday, it has been decided that the foundation day function will be held on Sunday,’’ said Afzal. Mehbooba had convened the  party meeting here to discuss the ongoing situation in Kashmir and preparations for the party’s foundation day. The meeting was held early morning at Mehbooba’s Gupkar residence here in which the foundation day preparedness and overall political situation come up for discussion.

Afzal said that after the meeting of the office bearers including the zone presidents, district presidents, recently appointed Vice Chairmen of different Corporations and the senior party leaders, it has been decided to hold the meeting of the in charges of different constituencies.

Afzal said that the office bearers and party leaders were asked to gear up for the foundation day function. CM, Mehbooba, had condemned the attack on yatris, saying it belied the ethos of plurality.

While visiting the injured in a hospital in Anantnag, ,Mehbooba had said that the  head of every Kashmiri hangs in shame over the incident.

“Pilgrims come to Kashmir every year for the yatra despite all difficulties. And seven people died today. I have no words to condemn it. I hope the security forces and the Jammu and Kashmir police arrest the perpetrators forthwith and take stern action against them,” she said earlier, adding, “ This incident is a blot on all Kashmiris and Muslims. We will not keep quite till we bring the culprits to book.”  Mehbooba had broken down while meeting the pilgrims.

Afzal said that party president asked the cadre to ensure large participation of people in the foundation day function.
