Traders federation Sopore protests against GST implementation

Following the shutdown call given by the Jammu and Kashmir Coordination Committee  (JKCC), scores of members of  traders federation Sopore protested against the Goods and Services Tax (GST).  Most of the shops and other business establishments were shut in Sopore.

President of  federation , Haji Muhammad Ashraf Ganaie  said,  ” We are against this new law in which they talk about one India, one tax. We will not allow its implementation, even if we have to sacrifice our lives. We will not allow the erosion of our special status”.He said that government should learn from the past mistakes and bring out a model of GST.

The traders and the opposition parties claim the new tax regime would lead to erosion of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir guaranteed by Article 370 of the Constitution.

Meanwhile, President traders federation Sopore Haji Mohammad Ashraf Ganaie also condemned in strong terms the detention of traders and civil society members who had planned  a peaceful protest against the imposition of GST yesterday in  the summer capital Srinagar. He also demanded the release of arrested members.
