NHPC daily wager’s death: Police lodges FIR, arrests two NHPC employees

Police on Monday lodged an FIR and arrested two NHPC employees in connection with the death of 19 years old Aadil Ahmad. The teenager was a daily-wager of National Hydel Power Corporation (NHPC) working in the border town of Uri in north Kashmir.

“The FIR 38/2017 under 304A RPC has been registered. Both the employees against whom the case stands registered are Junior Engineers (JE’s) with NHPC. They have been identified as Suriya Mohan and Rakas Malav,” Station House Officer (SHO) Uri Tabraiz Ahmad told Kashmir Vision.

“They are in our custody and we are probing the matter,” the SHO said.

The move came after the residents of Salamabad, Uri alleged that the death of the teenager occurred due to negligence of the NHPC department.

“He was asked to get down into the dam to sanitize it on a raw rope that was tied to the JCB. But unfortunately, as he got down it collapsed and he drowned,” locals told Kashmir Vision over phone from Salamabad Uri.

The residents on Friday locked the office of NHPC at Salamabad till late night and were demanding the police to register an FIR against the culprits.

The daily-wager drowned in NHPC dam at Salamabad, Uri on 30th of last month as he was sanitizing the dam.
