With an aim to provide platform to the players of basket ball to showcase their talent, three basketball players have taken an initiative of organizing a basket ball league at Indore stadium, Srinagar.

The league is named as “Summer League,” in which around 20 teams from Srinagar of boys and girls are participating in the event.

Despite hot overcast and restrictions imposed by the authorities in some parts of the city, teams in the league participated with passion and played their matches with zeal.

Captain of team El- Calor, Useeba Bashir said that it is wonderful and unforgettable moment not for only her but for everyone who were participating in this league.

“My team started their journey in this league with a win that is a moment proud for me. I hope this win will maintain the high spirits of my players,” Useeba said.

When this reporter asked her what benefits her player get from the league, “first this league provided a chance to many players to play and will helps to boost the talent of budding players. We need to organise many such events, so that more and more players will opt for this game, “she replied.

Another player of Swiss team Laabib Bhat said, “First time such kind of basketball league is organised here, when I heard about it, I was excited,” adding he said that from this league we (basketball players) got a chance to play basketball with senior players.

Pertinent to mention, Basketball players, Danish Pandit, Wasiq Ashraf Bhat, Ikan Shingloo organised the league.

Talking about the motive behind organizing the league, Ikan Singloo, who is one among the organizers, said that “our main motive was to provide chance to the basketball players of our valley to play in such big league in their home ground. We have many talented players but we need to boost their talent and also this is good platform for our budding basketball players.”

Earlier, the league was inaugurated by Divisional Sports Officer, Kashmir Nuzhat Ara and manager of Indore stadium Shiekh Tulal, in presence of many sports dignitaries and players. J&K Bank, K-Cafe and Adeeb international sponsored the league.
