Mirwaiz placed under house arrest

Authorities on Friday placed Hurriyat Conference (M) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest ahead of proposed protests by Joint Resistance Leadership after Friday prayers.

Joint resistance leaders including Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik have called for protests after Friday prayers against the US State Department for announcing Hizb chief, Syed Salahuddin as “a global terrorist”.

Pertinently, Mirwaiz was placed under house arrest on last Friday (Juma-tul-vida) as well and he was not even allowed to deliver his sermon on Eid.

Authorities have imposed restrictions in Srinagar parts coming under five police stations to “maintain law and order”.
