People from village Donipawa, Anantnag on Saturday held protests against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for failing to provide them drinking water.

Scores of people from Donipawa and Brakpora assembled on Anantnag- Achabal road near Donipawa and held protests. The protesters blocked the busy road for nearly one hour leading to a long and messy traffic jam on the road.

Demanding clean drinking water, the protesters said that many people in their villages have fallen ill due to the consumption of contaminated drinking water.

“They (PHE) have been supplying us highly contaminated water leading to water-borne diseases among the people,” the protesters said.

Meanwhile, the top officials rushed to the spot to pacify the protesters.
