Killing of ‘Teenage militant’: Social media reacts

Social media has sharply reacted to the killing of a teenager militant, Shariq in Kakpora, Pulwama.

“Bullets and mortar shells for a 14-year old. What world are we living in?” wrote Gowhar Geelani, a Srinagar based journalist and a political commentator.

Another netizen, Liyakaq Ali Khan, had something different to say. He wrote “the way Kashmiris are glorifying those who pick-up arms and get killed for the freedom of Kashmir” he wrote “are actually doing a great disservice to their own people especially to the young generations by encouraging them to pick arms” for, what he said  “has turned to be a profitable business for some.”

Pervez Nehru, a social activist, while criticizing recruiters wrote “who are recruiting these innocent minors in armed militancy.. It is criminal.”

Apart from different posts that were shared on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, different photos from the encounter site and those of funeral processions of militants were also extensively shared.

Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, later tweeted about the killing of Tauseef Ahmad, a civilian who was killed in Kakpora when forces fired pellet on him, “One more innocent Kashmiri 22 year old Tauseef Ahmed Killed by Govt forces as they fire indiscriminate pellets on him at Kakpora Pulwama!, ”  he tweeted.
