Three militants have been killed in the night long encounter between government forces and militants in Kakapora area of Pulwama district of south Kashmir.
Gunfight had started after the Security forces had launched a cordon-and-search operation in Kakapora area of Pulwama around 6 pm on Wednesday evening, following information about presence of militants there.
As the security forces consisting of 50 RR,SOG Pulwama and 182 & 183 CRPF were conducting the searches, they were fired upon by some hiding militants.
The security forces retaliated, triggering a gun battle.
In the encounter, three Local LeT Militants were killed .The slain militants have been identified as Majid Mir and Shakir Ahmad of Kakapora and Irshad Ahmad of Aghanzipora Awantipora.Two AK 47 rifles and one pistol was recovered from their possession.
Meanwhile, an Army Major was hit by a bullet during the firefight, said the official, adding that he was shifted to a hospital where his condition is stated to be stable.
