Court issues arrest warrant to Geelani

A court in Baderwah has issued an arrest warrant to Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Geelani in a case that has been going on since 1989.

Hurriyat (G) spokesman, Ayaz Akbar said that Geelani had given a speech in Baderwah in 1989 following which the police had filed an FIR. “Today, a police party from Baderwah arrived at his residence and served him the arrest warrant. The chairman told them that he was not afraid,” he said.

However, the police party did not arrest him, but informed that they will talk to the higher authorities.

Lashing out at the government, the Hurriyat (G) spokesman said that the arrest warrant is a mockery as Geelani was “already under house arrest from the last seven years”.
