In what is being termed as a medical negligence case, a woman identified as Maimuna (60), resident of Khankah-e-Sokhta, Nawa Kadal died, when she was given an injection on Wednesday night leading to her death.
Giving details about the incident deceased’s son, Sahil Pandith said that it was a “pure case of negligence” where doctors and the paramedical staff failed to attend the patient when she was in need.
The patient had undergone surgery and was admitted in SHMS’s ward number 18.
“She was given an injection which lead to a reaction,” said Sahil.
According to him, when his mother started to wreath in pain they started to look for some doctor or any paramedic in the ward, which unfortunately, they could not.
“I found no one around, and my mother was dying of pain,” he said.
This reporter visited ward 18 at around 9:30 PM, nobody was around in the ward—not even any paramedic—attendants were all serving their respective patients themselves.
As per the hospital roaster there had to be six doctors on duty and few paramedics.
Pertinently, doctors in SMHS have gone on a strike demanding action against a cop who allegedly thrashed an on duty doctor on Tuesday night.
After the incident, only the emergency unit is functional, and rest, all the activities (OPD/IPD) have been hit owing to the medicos strike.
Police have formally registered a case in this regard on the complaint of the relatives of the deceased under FIR number 27 under section 304, stating it to be a clear case of death due to negligence.
When this reporter tried to contact Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr. Nazir Chowdhary, to get an official comment on the incident, he said that “I am not authorized to speak on the issue” adding that “Principal GMC has given us clear orders not to speak to media personnel.” Many officials were contacted for comments, but nobody spoke about it.
