Students clash with forces in Shopian

Clashes erupted between students and government forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian town Monday after students started protesting against the killing of a college student, Aadil Farooq, by armed forces last week.

Witnesses said that heavy deployment of police and forces was made since early around the government degree college Shopian which irritated the students and they started protesting against it.

They said that after raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans inside the premises the protesting students came few meters out and pelted stones on the deployment.

The forces retaliated with tear smoke shells and stun grenades creating panic in the area.

Witnesses said that soon the girl students also joined and started protesting.

The colleges and universities of Kashmir Valley reopened after many days in Kashmir. Authorities had suspended class work in the higher educational institutions fearing protests post Aadil’s killing.
