Documentary on Kashmir unrest refused permission for screening in Kerala film festival

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting triggered a fresh controversy on Saturday by denying permission to screen documentary on Kashmir unrest at the 10th Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala.

The documentary, ‘In the shade of fallen chinar’ directed by Fazil Nc and Shawn Sebastian, tells about the lives of young Kashmiri artists studying in various universities across the state outside. The documentary, takes a peep into their lives and talks about the factors that inspire their art and how it take the form of resistance in the conflict-ridden Valley.

The Ministry, however,  has cited no reasons for the ban.

Two other documentaries , Unbearable being of lightness in the backdrop of Hyderabad University research scholar Rohith Vemula’s suicide and March March March on JNU protests were also refused permission to be shown in the festival.
